The College was founded in 1984, establishing an Irish Medical College for General Practice, called The Irish College of General Practitioners.
2024 marks the 40th Anniversary of the College. Earlier this year, the College was rebranded and is now known as the Irish College of GPs.

To coincide with the publication of the history of the College on its 40th anniversary, we talked to the College's foundation CEO, Fionán O'Cuinneagáin, who brought us on a journey from the early days of the College to his retirement.

The doctor’s bag is the most recognized symbol of the General Practitioner. This exhibition, curated by the Heritage Centre, RCPI with the Irish College of General Practitioners Retired GPs Group, explores the development of the bag and its contents over the past two centuries.
