How to Apply

College Members & GP Trainees
Access to LARC Theory Course 

This Course is open to Irish College of GPs members only

Advanced Certificate in LARC: new and experienced inserters

The Irish College of GPs Advanced Certificate in LARC is available for GPs and GP Trainees interested in completing further LARC training.

To apply online for the Advanced Certificate in LARC, you must have  
  1. Obtained the Irish College of GPs Certificate in Contraception 
     OR 
    minimum three years’ experience post completion of GP Training, providing contraceptive services, and completion of the Irish College of GPs Contraception Theory course (GPs)
  2. Completed the Irish College of GPs LARC Theory course
  3. Completed all sections of the logbook 
  4. Paid the application fee online

You must ensure that your Tutor is an Irish College of GPs-registered LARC Tutor by emailing womenshealth@icgp.ie before completing further LARC training.
Applicants can email us to request information on Tutors in their area.

  • Any applications submitted as per the old process will not be accepted.

  • LARC theory course 
    Practical training and completion of the Contraception logbook

  • This course is open to GP members and GP Trainees. 
    This course is currently not open for non-members.

    1. Obtained the Irish College of GPs Certificate in Contraception
       OR 
      minimum three years’ experience post completion of GP Training, providing contraceptive services, and completion of the Irish College of GPs Contraception Theory course (GPs)

  • Members and GP trainees - Course access

  • The application fee is €80

  • Subdermal - A minimum of 6 entries needs to be made in the logbook dated in chronological order, and 2 consecutive entries signed off as Ready for Independent practice.

    IUCD - A minimum of 6 entries needs to be made in the logbook dated in chronological order, and 2 consecutive entries signed off as Ready for Independent practice.

    Subdermal and IUCD (Both) – A minimum of 2 entries in each section, dated in chronological order and 2 consecutive entries signed off as Ready for Independent practice

  • Any applications submitted as per the old process will not be accepted.

  • No, only the Irish College of GPs LARC Theory course is accepted.

  • The logbook can be signed off only by an Irish College of GPs active LARC Tutor.

  • Yes, A participant can have 2 tutors if required. As per the requirements, they need to be added under the Additional tutor section in the logbook. Please ensure details of both tutors are provided wherever necessary.

  • The LARC theory course is eligible for 5 Accredited CE Credits and 1 day GMS leave. The Advanced Certificate in LARC is not eligible for any credits.
