The Women’s Health on-demand courses aim to provide high-quality educational opportunities across a broad range of women’s health topics for GPs. These courses are designed to be timely, accessible, and directly applicable to everyday clinical practice, ensuring content is responsive and relevant to the demands of a busy workload.

The course provides the key knowledge GPs and GP Trainees require when providing contraception in general practice. On completion of the course, GPs and Trainees should be confident to counsel patients on the different contraception options available. The course comprises two eLearning modules. Module 1 contains the core content which GPs require to safely prescribe contraception. Module 2 provides additional information on common presentations in general practice that may arise when prescribing contraception.

For GPs and GP Trainees interested in completing further contraception training, the Certificate in Contraception is available. This involves completing a Contraception logbook under the supervision of an Irish College of GPs Contraception Tutor. For further instructions please click - Contraception

Based on the identified learning needs, the tutor and trainee should then define the learning objectives and plan activities to meet these objectives. These activities should be completed through a mixture of tutorials and consultations (independent and observed). As the applicant’s level of skill increases with successive tutorials, we would expect a decrease in the level of supervision required.

The LARC Theory course provides the key knowledge GPs and GP Trainees require when providing LARC in general practice. The course outlines the relevant information required to comprehensively counsel patients about intrauterine devices and subdermal implants. It also includes some information on the insertion and removal of these devices as well as troubleshooting. It includes short videos on the use of the College checklists to enhance your practical LARC instruction, as well as a brief video on the infrastructure required to set up a LARC service in your practice.

Based on the identified learning needs, the tutor and applicant will gather a list of the learning objectives and plan activities to meet these objectives. Initially, the applicant will observe the tutor insert a LARC device, but as their competency level improves, the majority of the learning objectives can be achieved while supervising the trainee insert a LARC device.
