The HSE launched its new five-year strategy for sepsis, Action on Sepsis: Five-Year Strategy 2026–2030 this week. The Irish College of GPs welcomes the publication of the new strategy and recognises the vital role of general practice across sepsis prevention, early recognition and care for patients and families affected by sepsis.

The Defence Forces and the Irish College of GPs celebrated the conferring of Membership of the Faculty of Military Medicine of Ireland (MFMMI) on Comdt (Dr) Shane Brady. The event marked the continuation of the close relationship between the Irish Defence Forces Medical Corps and the Irish College of GPs in the delivery of modern specialist healthcare. The event took place in McKee Barracks, Dublin, where Comdt Brady was formally admitted as a Member of the Faculty, following successful completion of the training programme and its assessments.

Saturday marked the inaugural Irish College of GPs Medical Student and Intern Day, held in Hogan Place, the home of the Irish College of GPs.  This event was designed for medical students and interns who want to learn more about the pathway to specialist training in general practice in Ireland.  It was an opportunity for attendees to hear from practising, GPs, GP trainees, College staff and Programme Directors.

The College calls for sustained investment in primary care with the following priorities: integrated and connected care, delivering the GP workforce Ireland needs, providing more care to patients with multidisciplinary GP teams, supporting modern built infrastructure, and ensuring our health system is driven by data.
