Vaccination remains crucial for staff and eligible patients not yet vaccinated.
Core infection prevention and control (IPC) measures:
- Promote hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette.
- Ensure readily available alcohol-based hand rub and adequate mask supplies throughout the practice.
Use masks:
- Masks are already recommended for staff caring for patients with respiratory symptoms.
- During the current surge, all staff, patients and accompanying adults are encouraged to wear masks during this period of high influenza transmission
- Advise people with respiratory symptoms not to visit practices or other healthcare settings unless essential. Administrative staff assistance in this, and in promoting mask use is greatly appreciated.
- Practice nurses’ contribution is indispensable – including promoting vaccination and maintaining IPC standards.
