The Medical Council is inviting expressions of interest from individuals who wish to be considered for appointment as Performance Assessment Assessors. The opportunity is open to medical practitioners, including GPs, as well as lay, non-medical and patient representatives.
Performance Assessment is a Professional Competence Scheme that supports good professional practice. It is designed as a supportive, developmental process that assesses a doctor's knowledge, skills and practice, with a focus on identifying areas for improvement and professional development.
Assessors may be involved in activities such as reviewing records, observing practice and interviewing practitioners. Both medical and non-medical assessors play important roles, bringing either a peer clinical perspective or a patient and public perspective to the process.
