About the Foundation Course in Addiction Management

This on-demand, online course is designed for GPs. It introduces a compassionate, trauma-informed, evidence-based approach to managing substance use in primary care. It is also a prerequisite for those seeking a Level 1 Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) contract with the HSE. Please note that those wishing to prescribe buprenorphine therapies (Suboxone/Zubsolv) must complete an additional Training module on buprenorphine (Suboxone training)

Programme Highlights

  • Focus on both prescribed and non-prescribed substances
  • Education on Opioid Agonist Therapy (OAT) including methadone and buprenorphine/naloxone
  • Practical, efficient strategies for:
    • Alcohol use disorder
    • Benzodiazepines and Z-drugs
    • Cannabis and stimulant use disorders
    • Prescribed and OTC opioids
    • Behavioural addictions

Format

  • 10 interactive eLearning modules
  • Self-paced learning (approximately 3 hours)
  • MCQ assessments (80% pass required on all modules)
Upon completion, successful applicants will receive:

  • CPD Credits

    • MCQ assessments

    • All 10 modules must be viewed in sequence, and 80% achieved in the MCQ assessment after each module. This is a self-paced course.
    • Note: You may repeat the MCQs up to a maximum of three times.
