- Irish College of GPs’ first new GP Leadership Academy, with a Programme called ‘Empowering GPs: Leadership for the Future’, concludes this week
- GPs found it immensely valuable in developing leadership skills and expertise to drive change and shape the future of primary care in Ireland
This week (April 15), the College concluded its first Leadership Academy, an exclusive initiative designed for GP members to develop their leadership skills, strategic insights and confidence to thrive in today’s complex healthcare environment and drive positive changes within their practices and communities.
The programme, designed specifically for GPs, attracted participants from around Ireland, from aspiring General Practitioners and emerging leaders, who are preparing to take on significant leadership roles within their practices, to experienced GPs seeking to refine their leadership skills and management techniques.
The Chair of the Board of the Irish College of GPs, Dr Deirdre Collins, said: ‘Today we are delighted to see the first graduates of this exciting initiative complete the programme. Across the country, GPs are leaders in their practices and in their communities, and we are delighted that participants have been able to develop their skills to become change-makers and help navigate the complex healthcare system on behalf of their patients and of general practice.’
The CEO of the Irish College of GPs, Mr Fintan Foy, said: ‘We are delighted with the outcome of this innovative new programme. The response from participants has been overwhelmingly positive. They have welcomed the opportunity to create a network of like-minded GP leaders who are committed to shaping the future of primary care in Ireland, while developing their leadership skills.’
We are grateful to our partners on this project: Crowe Ireland, Trinity College Dublin and Mason Hayes & Curran for supporting and delivering much of the content of the programme. In addition, our colleagues in Crowe were instrumental in the design of the content.
The next programme will begin in September 2026, with applications opening in June 2026.
